This is a massive statement, especially given the fact that the combat, story, and visuals of Final Fantasy 10 are in a class of their own as well. However, what breathes life into this game is the main party, with each and every character in Final Fantasy 10 being extremely charming in their own right.

Lulu is one such character that is a downright treat to witness on screen. She might seem rather cold and unapproachable at first glance, but people who get on her good side know just how gentle and kind she really is. Here are some things about her character that even the most diehard fans of Final Fantasy 10 have no clue about.

10 Tetsuya Nomura Added Numerous Belts To Test The Animators And Their Memory

Nomura is one of the best character designers of all time. Apparently, as per the stories surrounding Final Fantasy X's development, he also has a tendency to carry out some cruel pranks in the workplace.

This can be seen in Lulu's costume, where Nomura added as many belts as possible to confuse the animators. His main attempt was to test their animation skills when it came to showing all these belts.

9 The Animators Mostly Showed Her From The Waist Up To Avoid Any Issues

Nomura tried his best to bamboozle the animators by adding a massive number of belts to Lulu's outfits. However, the animators over at Squaresoft were smart enough to figure out a workaround around this issue.

They decided to avoid any issues stemming from Lulu's complex outfit by only showing her from the waist-up during these animated cutscenes. It was a clever way to avoid having to animate a hundred or so belts for every frame!

8 Lulu Doesn't Perform Any Complex Movements In The Full-Motion Videos

Another way to avoid the issues stemming from animating Lulu's belts was to prevent her from doing any complex movements at all. The animators decided to give this responsibility to other members of the main party.

There are several scenes where Lulu is missing from some major events in the story during these FMVs. Notable examples include Lulu being absent from the jump that Tidus and Kimahri land while chasing the Al Bhed airship. There's also a moment during the assault on Bevelle where Kimahri is shown carrying Lulu down a chain from the airship, instead of her sliding down by herself.

7 Lulu's English Voice Actress Used To Do Minor Side Roles As Bubbly Girls, Before Getting This Major Break

Lulu was voiced by Paula Tiso, and she definitely nailed the role of this major party member. This fact becomes quite surprising once people find out that this role was actually the first big job that Paula had ever taken up.

Before this role, she mainly used to get minor roles where she used to play the role of a bubbly girl. To go from this to the stoic and determined individual that is Lulu is quite a major transformation indeed.

6 She Has The Highest Evasion Stat In The Game

The Sphere Grid makes it so that players can take any skill or node without too much effort. However, for the most part, players would prefer to follow the preordained path on the Sphere Grid instead of taking any major risks.

In that regard, Lulu is on track to develop the highest Evasion stat in the game. This is a godsend, especially since Lulu doesn't really have the highest HP or defence. A few choice shots from strong opposition will definitely put her down for the count.

5 She Has The Potential To Get The Most Affection Points In The Game

Affection points are a unique mechanic in Final Fantasy 10 that allow players to get bonus scenes with other characters. These scenes happen several times over the course of the game.

What makes things even more interesting is that Lulu is poised to get the most affection points out of any other characters in the game... including Yuna. It's a rather neat fact that allows players to spend more time with this mysterious Black Mage.

4 She Becomes The Mayor Of Besaid After Some Time

Most Final Fantasy 10 fans might've heard the name Final Fantasy 10 -Will-. This audio drama essentially serves as an epilogue of sorts for Final Fantasy 10's story, and features everyone's favourite characters in a new light.

This includes Lulu as well, who has now become the newest mayor of Besaid! It's a nice little development that most fans of the games would be happy to witness.

3 Her Doll Weapons Come From An Unused Weapon Concept From Final Fantasy 6

Final Fantasy 6 is one of the greatest games in the series, and it was clear that the developers had a ton of fun while developing this title. The sheer number of ways they experimented with the systems of the game were quite apparent for all to see.

One such form of experimentation that never made the final cut was the idea of using dolls as weapons. Thankfully, the team didn't forget about this idea, and finally integrated this idea into Final Fantasy 10 instead with Lulu being the recipient of this idea.

There are several iconic figures that Lulu uses as dolls in Final Fantasy X. Everything from moogles to cactuars make an appearance as Lulu's attack dolls.

In fact, there was another popular figure from the Final Fantasy series that was supposed to appear as one of Lulu's dolls. This was none other than the legendary Tonberry itself. It could've been an excellent doll but never made the final cut of the game, which was quite unfortunate.

Given the all-girls cast of Final Fantasy X, one has to wonder why the developers decided to add a new character in the form of Paine instead of adding Lulu instead. However, there's a pretty legitimate reason for this creative decision.

Final Fantasy 10-2 was a story about Yuna coming into her own. This would have never been possible if Lulu was in the party, since Yuna saw her as a big sister and would've constantly looked to her for advice instead of finding her own path.
