Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO)

A mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) is a wireless communications services provider that does not own the wireless network infrastructure over which it provides services to its customers.

Because MVNOs use the carrier networks, they offer the exact same quality and reliability. The idea that MVNOs are in some way lower quality is simply a misconception - they run on the same networks as the big carriers. Data speeds or potential de-prioritization have more to do with your plan than your carrier.

The low price of an MVNO is largely attributed to the fact that MVNOs don't have to maintain their own physical networks. Given that they lease their network bandwidth from larger providers, they don't accrue the added overhead costs that go along with repairing equipment.

Devices from a specific carrier may work with others, but the service might not be the best. For example, an AT&T-locked Galaxy S10e may work with a T-Mobile plan, but won't be able to send messages.
